Dear NSHS Community:

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year!  In the Fine & Performing Arts, we have embarked on what is sure to be a fantastic school year.  It is my pleasure to announce that we have two new, dynamic faculty members; Laura Penney (Photography teacher) and Ryan Spruck (Technical Theatre Director), who have brought a whole new level of energy to our department.  You can read a short bio about them here.

As I am typing right now, I can hear our newly formed Bucket Drumming class working on Latin rhythms.  It's very exciting to see and hear a newly formed course expanding our musical opportunities to a larger community.  In the hallway of the 9,000's Honors Art and da Vinci are hanging murals that explore the concept of Order from Chaos.  When you're here for Back to School Night (9/29) be sure to check our student's work.  If you have a child enrolled in Theatre, be sure to ask them about Samurai and Bee Bee Bop; no one brings a group together closer and faster than our theatre department.

Throughout the school year, I will updating this site with information about performances, music festivals, and student achievements. More information will be available about our Wind Ensemble trip to Washing DC in April, the Scholastic Art Awards, Guest Artists, and countless other opportunities developed for enriching the experience of our students.

I know that I speak for the entire department when I say that we are deeply committed to creating community in our classrooms and bringing a depth of experience and understanding to our students.  We think of ourselves as the VARSITY ARTS.  Join our team, and help support us in the purchase of much needed supplies like a pug mill, Tenor Sax, and funding festivals with our booster campaign.  We have hoodies, insulated water bottles, and travel mugs available for purchase.  Join the Aesthetics Department team and support our kids.

I wish each and everyone a rewarding year of creativity.
